Wait a Minute...You Mean You Actually Wanted a Crisis for Your Birthday?

So as I predicted, yesterday was a rather normal day for me, despite it being my birthday. I had to work all day, and in the evening, I taught my science fiction class.

However, there were a few things that made it different.

First of all, there were all the electronic birthday wishes, here on LJ and elsewhere. For those, I thank you all.

Second, there was a gift waiting for me when I got home. A thank you note will be forthcoming.

Thirdly, one of the students in my class brought a cake to celebrate my birthday. It was a surprise that I very much appreciated.

But finally, [livejournal.com profile] gnomi got me the bestest present of all. I know she must have skimped on yarn and skipped lunch once a week in order to save up the money.

Folks...I now own a copy of Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Absolute Edition.

Crisis cover

To say I am totally psyched about this would be a major understatement. If you're a comic book geek, you're already drooling.

Let me describe this thing. It's two oversize hardcovers in a beautiful slipcase. The first hardcover is a reprint of the original collected edition of Crisis, but the pages are bigger and the art is breathtaking. The second hardcover, The Compendium, is 96 pages of notes, memos, and artwork from behind the scenes, plus a complete index of all the issues and the crossovers, as well as essays about the impact of Crisis on the DC Universe.

Ah, I can't do it justice. Let me just direct you to the IGN: Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Absolute Edition Review, if you want to know what's in it.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.
