phoning it in

See, this is what bothers me about these sorts of fan-pleasing sequels. There's no incentive for the filmmakers to excel. This movie will get huge box office receipts even if it sucks.

I refused to see the 3rd Hobbit movie in the theaters for that reason. The first two weren't good enough to give me confidence that the 3rd would be worth whatever ridiculous price they charge for movie tickets lately. I feel no need to reward medeocrity. I will evenually see it on home video at much less expense.

If "The Force Awakens" gets enough good reviews from people I trust, I probably will see it in the theaters. But I'm not going to rush out to the theaters on the first day because "Look! A new Star Wars Movie".
