So, next year I'm up for re-election for Town Meeting.

I got an email today noting that as part of the festivities for the opening of the new New England Comics in New Bedford (that's three "new"s), Batman and Spider-Man will be appearing at the store on Sunday.

So...

Would it be a good idea or a bad idea for me to go the New Bedford store, get a photo of myself with Batman, and use his endorsement in my 2009 campaign?

As [livejournal.com profile] 530nm330hz suggests, maybe I should toss a coin...

I suspect that DC might have a problem with their character being used for a political endorsement at any level.

Look what happened to the last politician who got Batman's endorsement.

I take it you didn't see my tongue planted firmly in cheek...

Technically, that was Bruce Wayne's endorsement...but the point is well taken. Hence the coin.

Is that the same New England Comics (or same people anyway) that publishes The Tick?

Alex.

Technically it's the 13th New England Comics to use the name, so it's actually New New New New New New New New New New New New New England Comics.

Looking forward to the "I Believe In Michael Burstein" posters and buttons.

Or he could go in a different direction, and get "I WANT TO BELIEVE IN MICHAEL BURSTEIN" posters.

What you really need is a Bruce Wayne fundraiser.

It is indeed. NEC is primarily a retailer, and secondarily a publisher.

I like it, but it'll depend on how the X-Files movie does.

Ha! Yes, indeed, although I'd worry about gate crashers in clown makeup.

Heh. I'm thinking that the Ringling Bros. might notice a drop in proceeds from their upcoming private functions.

That's a big dilemma. On the one hand, an endorsement from Batman would show that you are tough on crime, which may serve you well in the election. On the other hand, defacing U.S. currency so it's clear if the toss is pro or con would be a crime. A bit of a Catch-22 that would make it difficult to decide.

I always wondered about that, after seeing the NEC ads in the comics I bought as a kid, and then picking up The Tick a few years later. Guess in the age of the internet, there's no reason to stay ignorant. Thanks.

Alex.
