Apex Blog: Crossing Genres

Earlier this month, Apex Publications began running blog posts by some of their regular stable of writers. I'm pleased to announce that I'll be one of those writers blogging regularly for them on the Apex Blog.

For my first blog post, I decided to tackle the beginning of a question that has interested me for years: why do we pigeonhole our stories into genres?

It's a good post. I'm part of SFWA and HWA. Last night, I discovered WWA (Western Writers Association) and, as that is my current favorite genre to write in (weird west that is), I thought maybe I should join them once I get some stories sold in the genre. Then I wondered if it would look weird to have SFWA, HWA, WWA on my list of credits. Like I'm one of those people who joins groups just to say I'm part of them. So, it's a little weird right now. I'm hesitant about the idea. But I still want to join when I qualify.

If you're writing western stories, by all means, join WWA when you can. Says the guy who is a member of SFWA, HWA, MWA, and the Authors Guild. :-)
