I was just a bit ahead of you in school, apparently; I caught fairly few of the first-season episodes when they were first broadcast, and didn't really have a chance to watch the series regularly until the third season. By the time I felt I was actually trying the show out, it had gotten past its painfully long period of finding its feet.
And I didn't even own a video recorder yet, at that point.
