Science fiction writer and Grand Master Andre Norton died today.

I have to admit that I never read a lot by her. There are many other writers and readers who are more qualified to pen tributes to her. However, I do recall one Norton book very fondly that I read when it first came out, back in 1979.

The book was "Seven Spells to Sunday" and a quick check of the cover art at http://www.andre-norton.org/coverart_gallery/seven_spells_to_sunday.htm confirmed that it is the book I remember. I remember loving that book, and reading it over and over again.

The only problem is, I can't remember the plot at all. Does anyone have an idea?

In the meantime, I've requested it from our local library network. It seems like an appropriate book to reread this month.

I recall getting a couple of Norton juvies from the Scholastic book club in middle school, when I first started reading SF. I'll bet I still have them. I recall one in particular about a boy who had mind-control, and the other, I think, was _Dragon Magic_, involving a jigsaw puzzle that transported people back into past lives.

I think I also got this book from the Scholastic book club.

I have no idea how or why I got it, but it must have been an influence on my life.

I periodically run across your lj but keep forgetting to befriend you. So now I finally have. Hi!

("Iron Cage" is my favorite Andre Norton, so I highly recommend it if you haven't read it. It's very moving.)

This is a sad day. I read dozens of her books earlier in life. (I probably still have a couple dozen or so at least.) The personal relationships combined with the mysticism of ancient relics, magicks and species in her books held me spelbound. Sigh.
