This Day In History, 1912: Titanic Sinks

At 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the British ocean liner Titanic sunk into the North Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and crew, had struck an iceberg two and half hours before. The Titanic had been considered unsinkable. Only about 700 people survived.

Some people have theorized that what really caused the Titanic to sink was the extra weight of all the time travellers who showed up to observe the tragedy.

Personally, I think the Titanic sank because the captain couldn't bear to listen to Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio chant "Jack!" "Rose!" "Jack!" "Rose!" at each other ad nauseum. There's prize-winning dialogue for you. ::sigh::
