mabfanSince I was born in Queens, NY, and grew up in the neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens:
On this day in 1913, ninety-two years ago, the flag of Queens was adopted. The flag was designed with symbols to represent the borough. A circle of wampum symbolizes the Native Americans who first inhabited the land, the tulip is for the Dutch and the roses for the English settlers who came later. The year on the flag, 1898, marks the year Queens joined with the other boroughs to form the City of New York.
