A fellow named Keith Martin has posted an interesting retcon article, A New Sith, or Revenge of the Hope, in which he retcons Star Wars: A New Hope given what we've now seen in Star Wars: Revenge of the SIth:

If we accept all the Star Wars films as the same canon, then a lot that happens in the original films has to be reinterpreted in the light of the prequels. As we now know, the rebel Alliance was founded by Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bail Organa. What can readily be deduced is that their first recruit, who soon became their top field agent, was R2-D2...

It's a fascinating new perspective on the film, to say the least...

Interesting. Rich, really well thought out in pretty much every detail, and it manages to close most (but not all) of Lucas's glaring plot holes...

I still say R2 is a secret Jedi.

Keith's done a much more complete analysis/"secret history" than I did, though.

My husband agrees: R2 must be a Jedi. He even can 'mind-trick' the droids on the starship in the beginning for the last movie.
