Eighty-five years ago today, the ratification of the nineteenth amendement to the United States Constitution was certified by the US Secretary of State, securing for American women the right to vote in all elections.

The Amendment reads:

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

I was going to suggest that in honor of the anniversary, all my women friends should go out and vote. I didn't realize there was actually a special election taking place next week! Who's running, and for what?

While waiting for the bus in Medford, I saw that someone named Callahan is running for state senate. His slogan is "He helps people." To what, I don't know.
