I am pleased to announce that I have sold a fantasy short story, "The Wizard's Legacy," to the anthology Heroes in Training, edited by Jim C. Hines and to be published by DAW Books in 2007.

With [livejournal.com profile] gnomi's help, I have crafted the narration for the movie trailer. As you read the following, imagine it's being read aloud by either Don LaFontaine or Hal Douglas.

"When the kingdom's wizard chooses two apprentices, thirteen-year-old Edmund, the son of an innkeeper, must prove himself worthy of the title. But is the second apprentice, a Duke's son, more worthy? Or is he a threat to Edmund? The final battle, facing off against a magical attack from the east, will determine Edmund's fate once and for all."

First, congrats on the sale. But you call that movie trailer narration?

"In a WORLD...

where NOTHING...

is WHAT IT SEEMS...

lies a MAGIC SECRET...

that could DESTROY THEM ALL.

THIS YEAR, find out WHY a KINGDOM...

HANGS IN THE BALANCE..."

etc. Now, someone else give it a try.

You know, I like that one better...and it does fit.

I'm just saying, your narration actually had something to do with the plot -- which movie trailer narration never does! ;-)

That's wonderful news. Congratulations. :-D I love the narration for the movie trailer too.

Today I pick up my comics (more Infinite Crisis!). Thank you for the reminder yesterday.

Congrats!

Is this a first fantasy for you?

Depends on your definition, I suppose. I've published a contemporary werewolf story ("The Cure"), futuristice and contemporary vampire stories ("Hunger"; "Lifeblood:), an alternate Gilbert & Sullivan story ("The Parallels of Penzance" with Stanley Schmidt), and other such things, but never a story set in a stock medieval fantasy world setting.

So how are you defining fantasy in this case?

From: [identity profile] desayunoencama.livejournal.com
Well, this seems to be more of a magic-fantasy type fantasy, as opposed to the abovementioned, which are supernatural/paranormal (werewolf/vampire), evne if they are all in the ueber-grouping of "the fantastic".

Well, if magic is your criterion, then my second published story, a thousand-word short-short called "Sentimental Value", fits the bill...even if it did appear in Analog. :-)

Oh, and rooming arrangements for RavenCon weekend are made now. Not at the hotel, but with friends in Chesterfield. It'll be a pain to get across Richmond, I know, but I'll just start a little earlier each day. :)

By the way, we'll try to have a food list emailed to you this weekend, if we can. If not, then the weekend before.

OK. Our friends in Chesterfield are searching for Jewish markets, or at least whether or not Ukrops has a kosher section. Laurie told me she was certain that Krogers would--they do here in Roanoke though ours is, as she described it, "lame". She felt fairly confident that one in a much larger city like Richmond should have a better selection, though.

(Fantasy? Isn't that blasphemy for an Analog writers? Fifth circle of hell, was it?)

Given your comments on Analog writers, you may find this Probability Zero I published back in 1995 of interest.

Ha, ha! I knew it. I knew Analog was based on a flimsy set of fantasy protocol, and now I have the documentary evidence!

Congratulations. But that isn't a movie trailer (as others have pointed out). What it is however, is the comercial for a tv series. "...On the next, Hercules!"
