Pirates at MIT

So tonight gnomi and I went to see the Pirates of Penzance performance at MIT.
chanaleh was in the chori, and we spoke to her afterwards. We also ran into a
friend of farwing named Johanna, and her friend Eric who had a bear with him.

The performance was excellent. I was actually in the very first production of the modern
incarnation of the MIT Gilbert & Sullivan Players, which was a Pirates production in the
Fall of 1988. This was was a lot smoother, even though Thespis was in the building.

Yes, Thespis, and I'm not referring to the first G&S musical to which the score is lost.
As devotee of Sports Night know, today is the anniversary of the day Thespis took to a
stage and became the first actor to speak lines in a play. The legend is that he's come
back as a mischevious ghost who likes to wreak minor havoc with theatrical performances.
Which explains the lateness of the start, the prop rockss being added while the orchestra
played the overture, the spotlight that almost fell...

Still, it was a great show. Expecially the percussion and the flute. And did I mention
how great Erica was? And by the way, I'm not related to Rebecca Burstein, who was in
the chorus.
