Anniversary Weekend
Jun. 19th, 2006 08:59 amYesterday was Nomi and my eleventh wedding anniversary, and of course we spent the weekend together. For those who are interested....
Friday: We realized that the Pandemonium Books (
pandemonium_bks) grand opening celebration started before shabbat did, so on Friday we headed over to Central Square to see the new store. It's a beautiful space, with a downstairs lounge that can be used for gaming, lectures, workshops -- anything.
smoagendash gave us a tour of the place, and we got to see
farwing working in her natural habitat -- a genre bookstore. Esther Friesner showed up to sign books, perform cheeblemancy, and cut the hamster cake. (You can see Nomi and me in the background of pictures at http://community.livejournal.com/pandemonium_bks/22531.html.) A good time was had by all, and a taxi ride got Nomi and me home with plenty of time to prep.
Saturday: Shabbat was peaceful and relaxing if a bit warm. We mostly stayed in and did a lot of reading. I finished the new "Writing for Comics with Peter David," which I can highly recommend. He includes excellent advice on story structure, character creation, and plotting.
Sunday: Sunday was our actual anniversary. We woke to a muffin delivery and then installed the air conditioner in the bedroom. Now, the Sunday closest to Flag Day is usually the day of Brookline's Flag Day parade, and I marched in the past two parades as a Trustee of the Public Library. This year, though, I bowed out so Nomi and I could have a traditional anniversary celebration.
What we usually do for our anniversary is take in a movie. In previous years, we've taken the day off from work and seen films such as The Phantom and Grosse Pointe Blank. This year, we went to see The Lake House, which was a light, charming, and fluffy time travel romance. We had a lot of fun figuring out the twists before the characters did.
That night, we went out to dinner with
jonbaker,
mamadeb, Bob Leigh (
chinfuzzy) and Mabel Liang, who had been at the Concertino filk convention in Worcester over the weekend. They drove out to Brookline so we could have our anniversary dinner at Taam China.
Today, back to work.

Date: 2006-06-19 08:48 pm (UTC)The sad thing about Pandemonium is I really don't think I'll get over there much, as I am often in Harvard Sq, but rarely in Central.
WRT Peter David. I love Fallen Angel, but other stuff leaves me cold (gave up on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but I think that was partly because of the spread-story-line-out-over-comics-I-don't-read thing). Amazingly enough, I have never read his Hulk work, which I know is classic stuff.
