Apex Blog: Mike Resnick and Africa

My latest Apex Blog post is up, on the subject of Mike Resnick and Africa. Where did this topic come from? In the April-May issue of Asimov’s, Norman Spinrad published a controversial On Books column titled “Third World Worlds” in which he noted (rather poorly) how much African cultures and history informs Mike's work. He didn't go into much detail, though, which led others to be dismissive of Mike's achievements in "writing the other." Since Mike is one of my favorite writers, I've come to his defense (not that he needs it).
