In my capacity as an elected Town Meeting Member and Library Trustee in the town of Brookline, I am delighted to make it formal that I have endorsed Cynthia Stone Creem, my state senator, for re-election.

Senator Creem was campaigning this morning in Coolidge Corner with former governor Michael Dukakis, and I stopped by to say hello and chat for a few minutes. Dukakis and I actually have a family connection; his wife's father, Harry Ellis Dickson, was close friends with my grandmother Clara Baker (later Clara Baker Cohen) when they were in Somerville Junior High and High School. We have another connection too: Dukakis was the first person I ever cast a vote for, when he ran for president in 1988, and Dukakis has voted for me in my Library Trustee races. Let me say that again, because it's so cool: the guy I voted for in my first vote for president voted for me to help run his town library.

But this post isn't about me; it's about Senator Creem. She's represented Brookline, Newton, and Wellesley in the state senate for over a decade and taken on a leadership role on many issues. I urge anyone in the First Middlesex & Norfolk District to click on the link above, which will take you to her campaign website, and learn more about what she's done for us and the state.

I'm a big fan of Senator Creem, and always found her and her staff very easy and enjoyable to work with at the State House on issues regarding the MetroWest Caucus. (Since some of the Newton delegation was not so agreeable, I very much appreciated Senator Creem in contrast.) Wish I could vote, counting on her to win.

Well, her ice cream isn't as good as J.P. Licks, which, I assume, must be why she closed her Newton Center store.

Hmm. Any chance she might want to talk with a student who writes for a college newspaper?

I'd suggest contacting her campaign through the website and asking.
