OK, so I couldn't resist --

Everyone join me in a rousing chorus of "Ten Thousand Men of Harvard!"

Here are the words:

And here's an MP3 of the Band playing it:

Gaudeamus igitur,
Veritas, non sequitur!
Illegitimum non carborundum,
Ipso facto!

p.s. it could be argued that, once in, one never really stops being in the Band.

I was actually in the prop crew, so I played the Big Bass Drum.

hooray! i started out in prop crew and switched over to percussion after a semester. perhaps the apex of my career (though a local nadir for the drumline) was becoming section leader halfway through my sophomore year because everyone else had graduated.

INC,
steve

Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.

How we will celebrate our victory,
We shall invite the whole team up for tea. (How jolly!)
Hurl that spheroid down the field,
And fight, fight, fight!

Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellas, do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and true.

Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name!
Won't it be peachy if we win the game? (Oh, goody!)
Let's try not to injure them,
But fight, fight, fight!
Let's not be rough, though!
Fight, fight, fight!
And do fight fiercely!
Fight, fight, fight!

The Band actually performs this one with appropriate hand gestures, such as sipping tea.

There was once a band contest for altering the "Hurl that spheroid down the field," line for hockey season. The winner was (in white below, Rated R):

Down the Field

March, march on down the field,
Fighting for Eli.
Break through that crimson line,
Their strength to defy.
We'll give a long cheer for Eli's men.
We're here to win again.
Harvard's team may fight to the end,
But Yale will win!

And while Harvard may have Tom Lehrer, Yale had Cole Porter, who wrote this little ditty:

Bulldog, bulldog, bow-wow-wow, Eli Yale!
Bulldog, bulldog, bow-wow-wow, our team will never fail!
When the sons of Eli break through the line,
That is the sign we hail.
Bulldog, bulldog, bow-wow-wow, Eli Yale!
