Dec. 8th, 2004 08:01 amStriking workers of the International Typographical Union closed nine New York City newspapers, including the Herald-Tribune, Journal American, Long Island Star Journal, Long Island Press, New York Times, Daily Mirror, and World Telegram. The strike lasted 114 days, ending on April 1, 1963. A total of 5,700,000 readers were affected by the shutdown.
