I hear this morning that a transit strike is taking place in New York City, forcing many of my friends to find alternate transportation to work.

Is it crazy that this news actually makes me nostalgic for my hometown?

I hope the strike gets resolved quickly, peacefully, and satisfactorily for all involved. In the meantime, if you're a New Yorker trying to find your way to work and home today, you have my sympathies and support.

Same here. I'd be getting an extended christmas vacation if I was at Hunter right now. No way I'd have been going to school from Eastern Queens.

Alas, I live in a small city where 99.99% of my travel is by personal auto. Plus my union adheres to the Taylor Law pretty rigorously. No fireworks here.

Well, the 2.5 hour commute may have been novel yesterday, but it was not fun today, and I'm not looking forward to the return home this evening. Yes, New Yorkers are resilient and resourceful, and we band together in times like this. Make no mistake, though: this strike *really* sucks and is also costing the City hundreds of millions of dollars a day.
